Army Specialist
Thomas A. Foley was assigned to B Battery, 2-44th Air Defense Artillery Regiment with the 101st Airborne from Fort Campbell, KY.
He
left Fort Campbell in route to Iraq right around March 1st... his 23rd birthday.
In the early morning hours of April 14th there was a knock on his Grandmother's front door in Dresden, TN. Tommy was not going to be coming home from the war. One more brave soul had given his life in honor to
his country and while defending the rights of peoples from another land. The night was a sleepless one for those
who had loved and cared for him throughout his life. We were all dealing with the shock and pain of our loss.
Though the
details of his death were (and in some ways still remain) sketchy we understand he was killed when an explosive devise detonated
unexpectedly. However it happened, the fact remains he gave his life for his country... the soldier's ultimate sacrifice.
I have been
kicking around the idea of building this site for almost a year now... I think it is finally time. Here, I want to introduce
you to "Tommy", the boy we knew and loved who grew into the soldier who died at war. Treasured memories of those we
love who have gone on are all the sweeter when shared.
I also want
to give honor to the many other soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. A special page has been set aside for the
lost warriors of the 101st Airborne and another honoring all lost soldiers and American Civilians that I have knowledge of.
You will also notice there is a special page set aside for Pfc. John E. Brown. Johnny died along with Tommy that
fateful April day. Though we didn't know Johnny personally we have come to learn from long talks with Ed and Bonnie
Brown that he and Tommy were two of a kind. We share the loss of these two fine young men. It is amazing
how such a tragedy could bring together people from different parts of the country. It leaves one to realize
that through every trial a blessing of some sort can be found.
